Background
Why Khutwa?
Supporting the
learning ecosystem

In 2000, the Qaddumi family came together to create a foundation in honor of the late Hani Qaddumi, a man with a vision for Palestine, who believed in the transformative power of education as a key driver for social and economic prosperity.

The Hani Qaddumi Scholarship Foundation has come a long way in fulfilling its initial mandate of providing access to education through scholarships. Over 1600 scholarships have been granted to bright young students studying in fields that are critically needed in Palestine. Our community of alumni has grown, creating valuable synergies and opportunities for networking.

“...Hani Qaddumi believed in the transformative power of education as a key driver for social and economic prosperity.”

However, the context we started working in has drastically changed. Today’s youth need to be prepared for a future that we can’t predict. The 4th Industrial Revolution is disrupting the labor market: youth need to adopt a growth mindset with a highly adaptable and flexible skillset. Learners need to foster skills that technology can never replace, especially creativity, emotional intelligence, collaboration and leadership.

Therefore, we asked ourselves: How can we become a more agile learning organization to better serve our mission of “supporting a disruptive generation of lifelong learners capable of shaping the future of Palestine”?

The answer we believe, is in encouraging youth to embark on a journey of lifelong learning rather than directing them to follow a set path, and recognize learning as an ongoing and diverse process that may take on many forms and occur in a variety of spaces.

As a result, Khutwa Organization was born. Khutwa builds on the foundation laid by HQSF, but with a broader umbrella encompassing interventions that target the entire learning ecosystem in a holistic way.

Khutwa will work directly with learners by providing educational opportunities, access to resources and exposure to new ideas. We recognize that learning takes place when we strike a balance between introducing new ideas and encouraging learners to reflect on them. We value not only the knowledge they gain but their social and emotional understanding.

Khutwa will work with the entire learning ecosystem that affects the learners’ journey by sparking dialogue and sharing insights around learning

“Khutwa” declared Dr. Nabil Qaddumi in April 2018, grew from an initiative to an institution, empowering learners in a supportive and nurturing environment. It represents the step a new generation of learners will take as they embark on this lifelong journey forging the future of our beloved country... Palestine.
